Maryam Eskandari : Biography
My name is Maryam Eskandari, I was born in Iran and live in the Netherlands-Utrecht.
I work with clay, am a sculptress…
Before sculpture I verbalized my feelings with words, but since 2000, when I touch pottery, I can shape my words into sculptures.
it gives me more freedom and satisfaction to express myself.
The excellence of clay taught me to fight against the discomforts and pains of life…
I was and “I am” like clay : fire, water, heat, cold, baked and again…
Taught me to get through the hard time in the refugee camps.
The dark period, which can be summed up in loneliness and the expectation of an unknown future;
It was in this solitude that i spent endless nights in a dark basement shaping clay to achieve my inner satisfaction.
In the same way, sculpture helped me get through the most difficult stage of my life battling a terrible disease called cancer!
The exhibited figures are the result of this period of my life…
I shape time to give them orders … “Genderless of beings in clay”!
The moments of pain, always daring, become broken limbs hands, heads, figures and bodies all “Broken”, but one can find the desire for existence and “Life”!
Resistant with the Joy of life, Smiles but Cries inside.
